D-type, Jonathan Stevenson, 24 April 2024

The Artwork

This is an acrylic painting of a D-type, painted by Jonathan Stevenson (Jon).

Jon works on a large scale in acrylic on canvas. He looks for interesting angles and moments, to emphasise particular design features and create art that is visually impactful and true to the subject.

This painting is on display in the Collections Centre.

The Artist

A matchbox model of a Porsche 930 Turbo. That’s what ignited Jon’s passion for cars.

The Bond cars, KITT in Knight Rider, the white Testarossa in Miami Vice – they kept it bubbling along. Then the obsession with classics was kicked off with a rusty Lancia Fulvia bought off ebay, but in Jon’s words, “the least said about that the better!”.

A succession of classics have followed, and a deepening love of their history and design led him to pursue a career as a full time automotive artist.

After a 25 year professional career, he decided to pursue his passions for art and all things automotive by taking up the brushes and painting cars full time, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, a successful professional portrait painter. He also has a particular passion for depicting historic motor racing and has attended Goodwood events for many years.

He is a member of the Guild of Motoring Artists and has exhibited at the Royal Automobile Club and Savile Row Concours.

In Collaboration with JDHT

When the painting was delivered, we took it in the workshop for a photo opportunity with our very own D-type.

We are working with Jon to share his paintings with fellow car enthusiasts, so, if you would like your very own painting, please contact:

Jon will then get back to you.
